Simply Energy exists to serve Australians. But we want to do more than just keep the lights on.
That’s why we’ve chosen to give back to communities across Australia, offering them the support they need most – whether that’s funding, energy resources and expertise or good, old-fashioned elbow grease.
Here’s what we’re doing to make a difference.
Good causes rely on funding to continue their amazing work, and we’re glad to do our bit to help. Each year we allocate a generous budget to support the charities and community initiatives that have touched our hearts. In 2016, we split this contribution between charities to maximise the benefit across the community. Our current charity partners are:
In April 2017, we held a charity golf day at the Riversdale Golf Course in Mount Waverley, Victoria. Together with our staff, partners and suppliers we raised a whopping $42,430 with all proceeds going to Cottage by the Sea a non-government, not-for-profit registered charity that provides inspiration, fun and opportunities for disadvantaged young people in a positive, healthy, seaside environment.
In November 2016, 8 of our employees travelled to Cottage by the Sea in Queenscliff Victoria for a working bee where they assisted in rejuvenating playgrounds, gardening painting and other general maintenance activities. It was a great opportunity to help provide the children they care for with an improved environment and facilities to enjoy.
We also installed 20 solar panels and a 5.2 kilowatt converter on the roof of their building. The savings from reduced energy costs ensures Cottage by the Sea has more funds to invest in their highly valued children’s programs.
Our Charity Program contributions don’t end there. Each year we make a second donation to one charity to help them achieve a particular goal.
In 2014, this second donation was used to provide a car for Peter’s Project. Volunteers use the new vehicle to transport cancer patients to their appointments in comfort.
In 2015, we installed 80 solar panels and a 20 kilowatt converter at three Wallara properties. The energy savings have allowed Wallara to continue its groundbreaking Ambassador Program, where 15 young adults with different abilities experience a year of training around public speaking and leadership.
Simply Energy also uses its community network to fundraise for different charity
In 2015 we held a charity golf day, with all proceeds going to Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation, which promotes organ donation to save lives. Building on the success of the 2015 golf day, in 2016 we held a similar event to support Mirabel, which helps children who have been orphaned or abandoned because of parental drug abuse.
The two golf days raised over $50,000 for the two causes.
Sometimes what a charity organisation needs most is someone to serve at a soup kitchen, fix a fence, man a fundraising station or hold someone’s hand. Like you, our employees all have causes that are close to their hearts. We believe in supporting these aims because they not only match our own ethos, we also pride ourselves on attracting employees that truly care about others.
That’s why we give each staff member one paid day’s leave each year to volunteer with various charities that offer us the chance to assist them.
Staff giving doesn’t stop at volunteering. Our employees have also run workplace events to raise funds for:
