Outages, Faults & Emergencies

If your power has gone out, or in the event of an electrical or natural gas emergency, fault or failure, your local electricity or gas distributor is best-placed to provide assistance.

The 24-hour assistance number for the distributor in your local area is provided at the top of every Simply Energy bill. We’ve also provided the 24-hour emergency contact numbers for all electricity and gas distributors here.

Gas Awareness

When dealing with gas usage, it is extremely important to understand the safety precautions to ensure that your family, friends, and colleagues are safe. It is your responsibility to ensure you are using licensed gas installers and certified natural gas appliances that meet the Australian regulations prescribed by the Australian Gas Association (AGA).

In an event of a gas leakage, it is important that you recognise the smell of unburned gas and understand the do's and don’ts if a gas leak was to occur. Pricing Information & Fact Sheets

Your electricity costs and electricity bill cycle will depend on whether you live in Victoria (including Melbourne), New South Wales (Sydney and NSW surrounds), or South Australia and Queensland. For example, Victorian energy bills are issued at least every 2 to 3 months.

If your gas or electricity costs were higher than you expected, it may be worth contacting us to investigate this further. However, there could be numerous reasons why the energy costs have increased, including an inflation in the gas or electricity market rates, or your gas or electricity usage was greater than you predicted, so be sure to check your energy price breakdown.

Concessions & Rebates

If you're an Australian residential customer and have a pensioner concession card, gold card, or health care card issued by Centrelink, you could be legible for discounts on your energy cost and supply charge. 

There are a number of energy concessions available at Simply Energy, including annual electricity concession, winter energy concession, life support concession, medical cooling concession, and many more.

Reducing Energy Bills

Simply Energy is always on your side, and we're constantly looking for more ways you could save on energy costs, whilst helping to reduce carbon emissions. Some tips may require a little bit of investment such as investing in renewable energy through solar panels (read about our feed-in tariffs here), whilst others are simple ideas to help reduce energy usage within the typical Australian home. These include:

  • Turning off lights and appliances such as TV's, computers, and gaming consoles when they aren't in use
  • Closing your curtains to keep the warmth in and the cool out
  • Use cold water to wash clothes and hang to dry when possible
  • Unplug chargers when not in use, and avoid overcharging appliances
  • Be mindful that gas appliances are generally more energy efficient over electric appliances
