Fees and charges FAQs
What are processing fees and how can I avoid paying them?
Processing fees are charges that are associated with different payment methods.
With some payment types, Simply Energy is charged fees by the merchant (e.g. the credit card provider). We may pass these fees on to you.
Card payment and payment processing fees
You may be charged fees depending on the payment method you use to pay your bill. These include credit card payment fees, Australia Post fees, BPAY fees and cheque processing fees.
The simplest way to avoid card payment and payment processing fees is to set up direct debit from a bank account or credit card. Even if your direct debit payment comes from a credit card, no fee will apply.
Dishonoured direct debit fee
We may charge you a dishonour fee if we cannot process your direct debit payment. This could be because you don’t have enough money in your account to cover the bill amount or your debit or credit card has expired.
Avoid dishonour fees by regularly checking your bank account or card balance and keep track of your energy usage through our free MyAccount app. You can also use MyAccount to update your payment methods and card details.
What is a paper bill fee and how can I avoid it?
A paper fee may apply if you choose to receive your bills by post rather than email. This fee covers some of the cost of producing, printing and posting your bill.
If you have an email address, avoiding a paper bill fee is easy. To receive your bills by email, simply switch to ebilling in a few clicks through MyAccount.
What is a late fee and how can I avoid it?
A late fee may apply if you miss your bill due date. When payments aren’t made on time, we send reminders and follow ups. Late payment fees cover these costs.
You can reduce the risk of being charged late fees for missing a bill payment (and save time and the hassle of making manual payments) by setting up direct debit through MyAccount.
