    Annual Electricity Concession

Entitlement is a discount of 17.5% off energy usage and supply charges on residential household electricity bills from 1 December to 30 November of each year. From 1 July 2012, a threshold for electricity concessions was introduced to take into account the Commonwealth's carbon tax compensation. This is so that households are not compensated by two levels of government for the same expense. From September 2013, the electricity concession was further reduced to ensure retailer discounts are applied before the concession amount is calculated.

    Winter Energy Concession

Entitlement is a discount of 17.5% off energy usage and supply charges on residential household gas bills during the winter months of 1 May to 31 October of each year.

    Service to Property Concession

Provides a reduction on the supply charge for concession households with low electricity usage. The concession is applied if the cost of electricity used is less than the supply (or service) charge

    Controlled Load Electricity Concession

Provides eligible customers with a 13% discount off their controlled load or dedicated circuit tariff. The controlled load or dedicated circuit tariff applies to household electricity bills that have separately metered electric hot water or slab heating. This concession is available all year round

    Re-energisation (Transfer) Fee Waiver

Provides a full waiver of the applicable fee that is normally payable when you organise a standard connection of electricity at a property. If you are eligible but not currently receiving any of the above concessions, please contact Simply Energy on 13 88 08.

    Life Support Concession

Provides a quarterly discount on electricity bills where a household member uses an eligible life support machine. This concession is available all year round. The discount is equal to the cost of 1,880 kilowatt (470 kilowatt per quarter) hours of electricity used each year, calculated using a general domestic tariff.

    Excess Energy Concession

The Excess Energy Concession was introduced by the Victorian Government in December 2013 to address fraud and misuse of the Annual Electricity Concession and Winter Gas Concession and to ensure that those concessions are better targeted to those most in need of assistance.

Under the new system, customers with annual electricity bills and gas bills that exceed the trigger level will need to apply for the Excess Energy Concession to continue to receive:

    • The 17.5 per cent concession on electricity consumed above the trigger level. The electricity trigger level is set at $418.65 (excluding GST) for the period 1 December 2017 to 30 November 2018.
    • The 17.5 per cent concession on gas consumed above the trigger level. The gas trigger level is set at $236.59 (excluding GST) for the period 1 May 2018 to 31 October 2018.

To apply for the Excess Enadditiona;ergy Concession an eligible person must complete the application form that will be sent to them by their retailer when the trigger level is reached and return the completed form to the Department of Health & Human Services. Excess Energy Concession has an annual period of 1 December to 30 November.

Customers receiving the Life Support Concession or the Medical Cooling Concession will not be required to apply for the Excess Energy Concession. They will automatically receive the Concession when they reach the trigger level.
