Privacy policy

What is the Privacy Policy?

Your privacy is important to us. We are committed to protecting your privacy and complying with privacy laws. This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and manage personal information. Who is this Privacy Policy for?

If you are an Engie customer, use our products or services, access our website, interact with us, are applying for a job with us or already work for us – this policy applies to you. 

Where a certain part of this policy only applies if you use a particular product or service we’ll let you know. 

This policy applies to the ENGIE ANZ Group including: 

  • the Australian subsidiaries of the ENGIE SA Group and other Australian based entities in which ENGIE SA holds majority ownership interest. This includes entities that are Australian subsidiaries of International Power (Australia) Holdings Pty Ltd and 
  • IPower Pty Ltd (ACN 111 267 228) and IPower 2 Pty Ltd (ABN 24 070 374 293), trading as ENGIE ABN 67 269 241 237, and their related bodies corporate (referred to as “we”, “our” and “us”).

What personal information do we collect? 

We may collect and hold different kinds of personal information about you. The types of personal information we collect depends on which products and services you use, how you use them and the type of dealings you have with us. 

Below are the main types of personal information we may collect:

Information about you

We may collect personal information about you like your name, date of birth, contact details (including your address, phone number, or email) and occupation. 

If you are a residential energy customer, we may also collect personal information to enable us to verify your identity, including information from your driver’s licence, passport, and health care and concession cards. 

If you are a candidate or employee, we may also collect information about your work history, qualifications, bank details and other information necessary to manage your employment (both potential, current and former). 

If you are a contractor, consultant, agent, supplier or business contact, we may also collect information about the services you provide or your interactions with us

Financial information  

We may collect financial information (like your credit card or bank account numbers), credit history and purchase history  

Energy information  

If you are a residential energy customer, we may collect information: 

  • about your energy usage; and 
  • about your energy meter and property. For example, your national metering identifier, which helps us identify your meter and the location of your meter
Information about your interactions with our websites, systems, advertising and applications

We may collect information about your activities on our website and mobile apps via tracking technologies such as cookies, web beacons, measurement software, application programming interfaces and other similar technologies. This information may include details about your use of the website and mobile apps, such as page views, searches, purchases and other activities on our site, and may be linked with information about your interactions with our advertising and marketing materials.

Information about your interactions with us

We may collect personal information contained in recordings of telephone conversations that you have with us. We will tell you at the start of the call if we intend to do this. For safety and security, we may also collect information about you by security and surveillance systems at some of our physical locations, including by CCTV. 

Information about others  

In some circumstances you may need to provide personal information about another person to us. For example, where you nominate an energy contact or where you have appointed an authorised representative to act on your behalf.

In these situations, it is your responsibility to tell the person you are providing us with their personal information and to tell them about this Privacy Policy.

Sensitive information

Generally, we do not collect sensitive information about you, like details of your race, political beliefs, or religion. However: 

  •  if you are a candidate or employee, we may need to collect sensitive information as it relates to your candidacy or employment, including health information (such as medical assessments); and 
  •  if you are a residential energy customer, you may wish to provide us with health information if you have special energy requirements or may be entitled to health related rebates. 

We will only collect, use or disclose your sensitive information with your consent or otherwise in accordance with laws such as the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

How do we collect your personal information? 

We collect personal information in three main ways:

You give information to us

This may occur when you (or someone acting on your behalf) interact with us or one of our consultants, contractors or agents. It includes when you give us information in person, during a telephone call, when you participate in our promotions, events or competitions or when you otherwise interact with us (including via our websites, systems and applications.

We collect the information ourselves  

This may occur when you interact with our products, services or our systems in some way (including our websites). For example, when you are a residential energy customer we may use smart meter technology, batteries, solar panels and software applications which manage these technologies to collect information about your energy usage. 

We obtain information from others

We may collect personal information from others. This includes: 

  •  from our related bodies corporates 
  •  from service providers, including from third party data, advertising and analytics services, and providers who help us with testing and improving our products and services 
  • when we are assessing your application to receive or purchase our products and services from Credit Reporting Bodies, other credit providers, existing or previous suppliers of products and services, your bank and other businesses (see our Credit Reporting Policy for further detail); and 
  • other third parties (such as government bodies, market operator, other energy retailers and metering services providers). We understand that you might not want to share your personal information with us.

 If you don’t want to share your personal information with us, please remember that we may not be able to provide you with the products and services.

How do we use your personal information? 

We use your personal information for the purposes of: 

  • Managing your relationship with us 

This includes any activities that are necessary to run our business, such as: providing you with products and services; creating and maintaining your account with us; verifying your identity (including when you register, log in or contact us); sponsoring or conducting community events, activities, forums and consultations; assessing your application for our products and services (see our Credit Reporting Policy below for further detail); investigating incidents; and disclosing your information to debt collection agencies to recover any amounts you owe us.

If you are a candidate or employee, we may use your personal information to manage that recruiting or employment relationship with us. If you are a contractor, consultant or supplier for us, we may also use your personal information to assist us in managing the services you perform for us (including making payments to you). 

  • Communicating with you 

We need to be able to communicate with you. This includes when we notify you about changes to our products and services; respond to your inquiries and requests for assistance; and obtain your feedback about our products, services or websites. We may also need to communicate with employees, employment candidates, contractors, and suppliers and use your personal information to do so.

  • Direct marketing  

We may use your personal information for direct marketing, in accordance with applicable laws. This includes telling you about offers, promotions, products or services (including those of third parties) that we believe may be relevant to you. 

You have the right to opt out of marketing communications from us. If we contact you for marketing purposes, we will give you the opportunity to request that your information not be used for further direct marketing by us in the future. If you’d prefer not to hear from us about marketing, special offers or promotions, you can unsubscribe as set out in our marketing communications, or you can also call us on 13 88 08 and we will add you to our Do Not Contact List. Keep in mind that when you opt-out of marketing, we will still need to send you important messages about your accounts with us for example, bills and safety messages.

  • Improving your experience and developing new products 

We may use your personal information to help us maintain, develop and improve our products and services (including optimising the mix of generation, storage and discharge into the network) and develop new products and services. 

We may also use your personal information to ensure the content from our website is compatible with the device you are using to access our website and to improve your customer experience. This includes combining your personal information with information that we have collected from our service providers, third parties, cookies or web beacons to provide you with a better, more relevant and personalised experience. 

  • Other reasons 

We may use your personal information to otherwise conduct our business and comply with law. This includes complying with our legal and contractual obligations

How do we disclose your personal information? 

We may disclose your personal information to:  

  • your authorised representatives; 
  • other ENGIE ANZ group members (including, in limited circumstances, ENGIE SA and its subsidiaries); 
  • our business or commercial partners and other businesses we work with; 
  • our related bodies corporate, service providers and other third parties (including contractors or consultants, and data, advertising and analytics service providers) so that they can assist us in providing our products and services, provide you with products or services on our behalf, or provide you with products or services that you have requested directly from them; 
  • third parties from whom you have requested information, services or products; 
  • Credit Reporting Bodies, other credit providers, existing or previous suppliers of goods or services, your bank and certain other businesses (see our Credit Reporting Policy for further detail); 
  • public, government or regulatory authorities, as authorised or required by law; 
  • our legal representatives and other professional service providers;
  •  concerned parties in circumstances where we reasonably believe that disclosing your personal information is necessary to help identify, contact or bring legal action against anyone damaging, injuring, or interfering with our rights or property, users or anyone else who could be harmed by such activities; 
  • third parties as required to verify your identity or confirm the veracity of any information you provide to us; and 
  • where required or permissible by law.

 If you request information from any third party through our website, you will need to check their Privacy Policy to find out how they manage your personal information as we are not responsible for the way they manage personal information.

Do we disclose and store your personal information outside Australia? 

We may store your personal information on servers located in Australia, as well as disclose and store your personal information to our outsourced data processors outside of Australia. Your personal information may be stored with our outsourced data processors in: Belgium, Fiji, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand, UAE, United Kingdom, USA and Vietnam.

When we disclose your information to our service providers located overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure appropriate measures are taken to protect your personal information and how it is used.

Cookies  

We use ‘cookie’ technology on our website. Cookies are small text files created and stored on your hard drive by your internet browser software, in order to hold relevant information about the web page you are currently viewing. We use cookies to measure usage sessions accurately, gain a clear picture of which areas of our website attracts traffic, track and analyse your use of our online service and improve the functionality of our website. 

Please refer to your browser’s help menu to find out how to disable cookies. While you will still be able to browse our website with cookies disabled on your internet browser, some website functionality may not be available or may not function correctly. Even if you disable cookies, we may use other tracking technologies to collect information about your activities on our website and mobile apps as described in this policy.

How do we safeguard your personal information? 

We strive to ensure the security, integrity and privacy of personal information we collect. We take reasonable steps to ensure the security of personal information held by us to protect your information from unauthorised access, use, modification, destruction or disclosure. 

We may store your personal information on paper or electronically in data storage systems. Access to personal information is restricted to authorised employees, contractors, agents and service providers, who are obliged to respect the confidentiality of any personal information held by us. 

We will take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify any personal information that we no longer need for any purpose for which it may be used or disclosed. We periodically review and update our security measures in light of current technologies.

How can you access or correct your personal information? 

You have the right to: 

  • seek access to any personal information (and credit reporting information) we hold about you; and  
  • ask us to correct your personal information if you discover it is inaccurate, incomplete or out-of-date 

We will allow you access to your personal information (and credit reporting information) to the extent it is permitted by law. Where we refuse your request for access, we will provide you with reasons for our refusal. 

If you want to access or correct the personal information we hold about you, please contact our Privacy Officer (see below for contact details) in writing. We will acknowledge your request in writing as soon as practicable, and will aim to respond to any inquiries within 30 days. Where credit reporting information is involved, we may need to consult with a CRB or another credit provider to do so. If we need more than 30 days to resolve your enquiry, we will advise you of the reasons for the delay and ask for your consent to extend this day period

There’s no charge to submit a request or correct your personal information, however in some circumstances we may charge an administrative fee for providing access to your personal information at your request.

We will acknowledge any complaints in writing as soon as practicable, and respond to any complaints or inquiries within 30 days.
