What is a Virtual Power Plant (VPP)?

The future of energy is coming

The sun belongs to everyone but your solar energy should work for you.

Red roofs crowned with solar panels have long been part of the Australian suburban landscape. And rightly so, when you think about how much sunshine beats down across this great southern land.

In South Australia, for example approximately a third* of all households have solar PV systems installed, which is above the national average of approximately of one in five and which is one of the highest rates per capita in the world.

For many, however, the satisfaction of generating their own electricity is restricted by the limitations of traditional solar without access to battery storage. When the sun is shining you’re not always home to use all of the electricity those solar panels are busy producing. Then at night when you want to make dinner, watch TV or put some lights on, the sun’s not out so you need to draw electricity from the grid which costs money.

So what's the solution?

The solution is to connect your existing solar system to the latest energy storage system so you could use the electricity your solar panels have generated at a later time. Introducing our Virtual Power Plant (VPP) concept, S.M.A.R.T Storage1.

Virtual Power Plant

S.M.A.R.T Storage has the technology to charge or discharge electricity to help support the grid when needed. S.M.A.R.T Storage connects your energy storage system to other systems managed by Simply Energy to form a Virtual Power Plant. This is a big step forward in sustainable energy, allowing eligible households to get even more out of their existing solar systems. This can benefit you and your community.
