9 date night films for the festive season

Take a break from the festive season rush, snaffle up a choc-top and settle in for the latest new releases. Here’s our pick of the crop for a traditional date night, as well as the perfect family flicks if your date happens to be one the kiddos!

1. Mortal Engines (from December 6)

In this epic adventure civilisation is destroyed and London becomes a giant, predator city on wheels crumbling everything in its path. The only one who can stop it is a mysterious woman.

2. Second Act (from December 6)

Comedy fans rejoice, Jo-Lo’s back! She stars as Maya, a 40-year-old woman struggling with unfulfilled dreams, until her friends cook up a fake profile that gives her the job opportunity of her dreams. 

3. Aquaman (from December 26)
Jason Momoa takes the lead in this other-worldly journey where Aquaman finds himself caught between the surface and the sea. 

4. Holmes & Watson (from December 26)
Holmes and Watson 

Prepare for belly laughs and snorting as Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly join forces again (remember Step Brothers?!) to reprise the roles of the famed detective and his partner. 

5. The Nutcracker And The Four Realms (from November 22) 
The Nutcracker
Clara wants nothing more than the special key that will unlock a gift from her late mother. But what she unleashes is a mysterious world where she finds she’s unlocked more than she could have imagined. 

6. The Grinch (from November 29)
The Grinch
An animated re-telling of the classic Dr. Suess book, it follows the Grinch as he plots to ruin Christmas for the adorable Whos in Whoville. 

7. Elliot the Littlest Reindeer (from December 6)
Elliot the little reindeer
Stop the presses! Blitzen has announced his retirement just days before Christmas giving a miniature horse the chance to earn a spot on Santa’s magical team. 

8. Ralph Breaks the Internet (from December 26)
Ralph breaks the Internet
Six years on from Wreck-It Ralph, Venellope and Ralph (now firm friends) travel into the internet to try and save the much-loved game Sugar Rush. 

9. Mary Poppins Returns (from January 1, 2019)

The delightful Emily Blunt takes on the coveted role of Mary Poppins, as she visits Jane and Michael, who are now grown up, in a Depression-era London.
