Ways To Save Energy

Keep warm without a big bill

Cranking the heater is one way to keep warm when the temperature drops. But if you’d like to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reduce your heating costs, there are some other things you can do to get cosy this winter.

  • Sunny day? Open your curtains and let the sun’s rays warm up your house.
  • Check windows, external doors, walls and floorboards for gaps. By sealing them, you’ll seal in the warm air and stop drafts of cold air coming in.
  • Get insulation, or add to what you’ve got, to stop hot air rising and escaping through the ceiling.

Use your heater more efficiently

  • Shut doors and only heat the room you’re using.
  • Try turning down the thermostat by 2°C.
  • Switch off the heater when you’re out and overnight.
  • Clean or replace the filters on your heating system.
