Saving with motors
- Electric motors need regular servicing. Make sure motor mounting, pulleys, attached pumps and/or fans are mechanically sound.
- Regularly maintain motor starting equipment.
- If you hear unusual noises or the motor feels too hot, have it serviced promptly.
- Ensure motors have adequate ventilation and are free of rubbish or waste.
- With large motors, continuous operation often saves more energy than stop/start operations.
- Motor capacity and speed should match the function or process.
- Place 'Switch Off' notices near machines.
- Install variable speed drives (VSD) whenever suitable.
