Saving with heating and cooling
- Check thermostats or measure temperature levels regularly to make sure the recommended comfort temperature settings (24°C for summer and 21°C for winter) are being maintained.
- Inspect and maintain air-conditioning systems and air-filters regularly.
- Check for adequate roof and wall insulation.
- Locate thermostats away from heat sources, such as urns, photocopiers, space heaters and the sun.
- Install air-conditioning only in areas that need it (not places like stock or storage rooms).
- Keep windows and doors closed when the air-conditioning is on.
- Install automatic time switches.
- Set the air-conditioning system/auto-timers for when the building is occupied.
- Install automatic door closers.
- Install internal blinds or curtains on windows to reduce solar heat gains/internal heat loss.
